Recap Video
Fastest Lap Onboard
Summary
I'm somehow in the running for the championship. I just have to win literally every single remaining round. That's a fun mindset to have when TTing at one of the most dangerous tracks in the west.
A few other guys have started delaminated/chunking the outer edges on their V601s after 5 rounds. I know I need my tires to last the remainder of the year, and my first lap of the session is when the V601s have the most grip... so I go out in the first session with a ridiculous 35 psi cold.
That quickly turns into 41 psi hot, at which point the car turns great (surprisingly) but doesn't stop at all.
Lowering to ~35-37 front and ~33-35 rear (hot) let me shave off about a second and take P1 by the same 0.3s margin. Ivan is loudly complaining his tires are gone - I believe him. He was dusting me by 1+s at the beginning of the year. It's hard to believe he's suddenly forgotten to drive.
You might think this means I've won the championship. But Ivan won't let a pesky $1000 tire bill stand between him and the title. I'll need to make some changes myself to stay competitive.
SX2 Lap
I did a 1:54.6 on my old-ish 245 SX2 later in the day. It was fairly warm, too. 1:54 at Sonoma in Stock class used to be considered a scorching time. And honestly, I like to think it is, even if there are guys out there who have gone faster.
