Fastest Lap Onboard
Summary
I spent most of last season in tears for one reason or another. Play in my steering, a fuel pressure sensor failure, a blown engine and chronic understeer. This was the first time in a LONG time that everything on the car seemed to be working.
This was my last shot to match Dennis's 2:05.7 Bypass time. Cyclone is understood to add 2.5s to the lap, so a 2:08.3 would be on par. After this round, we'd be switching to Yokohama V601 and the laptimes wouldn't be comparable anymore.
It was a cool, slick morning. The cool weather held up most of the day, and we had a dedicated run group, which allowed for plenty of clean laps.
Unfortunately, my pig of a car had suddenly turned into an oversteer monster, and I couldn't get the exits I needed to nail a P1 or match Dennis's benchmark. Ivan was able to do both, with a 2:08.2, 8 tenths ahead of me.
On one hand, I am glad that I'm not suffering from understeer anymore - the car is definitely faster. But it is strange to me that just replacing a sway bar bushing can impact the handling so drastically. It's also not clear why my car skipped the "being normal" part and went straight to being dangerously oversteery. I'm going to try adapting to this car but the change is concerning to say the least.
